Hearing that your child may need pulp therapy can sound intimidating, but it’s often one of the best ways to relieve discomfort while preserving a tooth that would otherwise be at risk of being lost too early. Sometimes referred to as a “baby root canal,” pulp therapy is designed to treat infection or inflammation inside the tooth while maintaining its important role in your child’s oral development. At St. George Kids Dental, our board-certified pediatric dentists take a gentle, child-focused approach to treatment and will help you understand every step of the process before moving forward.
Pulp therapy is performed to remove infected or damaged tissue from inside the tooth while preserving as much of the healthy tooth structure as possible. Depending on your child’s specific needs, the treatment may involve removing only the affected portion of the pulp or treating the entire pulp chamber. Once the tooth has been treated, it is often restored with a pediatric dental crown to provide strength and protection.
